pro-pic

Dougald D. McMillan, age 96, died on October 17, 2026 in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. McMillan was the son of the late Fillmore and Ernestine Elizabeth McMillan of Malone, Florida, and was a descendant of Florida pioneers who homesteaded in Jackson County.
He was a graduate of Malone High School and served in The U.S. Army and Merchant Marine.
He obtained his bachelors degree from Florida State University and his Juris Doctor of laws degree from the University of Florida.
After graduating from FSU, he and Evelyn Bridges of Brinson, Georgia were married. They were blessed with a daughter, Holli and a son, Stuart, who have been the joy of their lives.
Between graduating from FSU and attending law School, Mr. McMillan served as an aircraft engineering instructor to student military pilots at Graham Air Base in Marianna, Florida.
After law school, Mr. McMillan entered private law practice in Pensacola, Florida. Soon thereafter, he was appointed Assistant State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit of Florida and was mentored by the able State Attorney Graham Campbell. The two of them prosecuted felony cases arising in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties.
Subsequently, Mr. McMillan was selected to serve as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. when Attorney General Robert Kennedy made the investigation and prosecution of the Mafia and other organized crime figures a top federal law enforcement priority. While in the Justice Department, Mr. McMillan served as Chief of Organized Crime Strike Forces in Philadelphia and in Miami and personally prosecuted some of the major Mafia/Mob figures of that era.
Mr. McMillan was a member of both the Florida Bar and the Texas Bar. After leaving the Justice Department, Mr. McMillan resumed his career in private law practice, first in Dallas, Texas and later in The Villages, Florida.
He concluded his 55-year legal career with a class action case in Lake County, Florida in which he and his sister, attorney Carol M. Anderson, represented the class members.
He loved his family, the law and intellectual pursuits. He never lost his enthusiasm for books and learning engendered by his mother.
Mr. McMillan is survived by his daughter Holli (Clay) Sanborn of Dallas, Texas; his son Stuart (Michaux) McMillan of Goldsboro, North Carolina, his granddaughter, Katherine (Christian) McMillan Cox, also of Goldsboro; and his sister, Carol M. Anderson of Gainesville, Florida. He was preceded in death by two of his sisters, Jean Rivers and Betty Sessions, and his brother, Fillmore McMillan, Jr.
