And then there was one county team left – the Cottondale Hornets won their district championship and will advance in the play- offs. They struggled with injuries, illnesses, and a tough schedule, but came to play their best ball during playoffs. They outscored their opponents in the playoffs 22-2. The championship game was a 7-2 win over the Sneads Pirates.
Dylan Chester had the start on the mound for Sneads, gave up five runs on two hits, four walks, and struck out one batter. Creed Whitworth closed out the game, gave up two runs on three hits, no walks, and fanned eight batters.
Senior standout on the field and in the classroom, Wyatt Speers had the starting nod on the mound for the Hornets. He went five and two-thirds innings, gave up two runs on five hits, one walk, and struck out 11 batters.
At the plate, the Pirates were led by Travi- on Danzey with a hit and two RBIs, followed by Aaron Williams with two hits and one run scored. Isaiah Perkins was on board with a hit, a walk, and a run scored, followed by Kinsey Ragans with a hit.
For the Hornets, it was Alex Bellamy lead- ing the way with a hit, a run scored, and three RBIs, followed by Wyatt Spears with two hits and two RBIs, while Jaydon Gray had a hit and an RBI. Conner Barton was on board with a hit, a walk, and a run scored, while Lane Johnson, Trace Pelfrey, and Bar- ry Scott all had a walk and a run scored.
