Wayne Anderson “Andy” Gibson, Jr. was born to Wayne Anderson Gibson, Sr. and Myrtle Mae Stephens Gibson on July 13, 1948, in Grand Ridge, Florida. Andy was affectionately known as AndyPie to his closest friends and family. Andy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 20, 2026.
Andy graduated from Sneads High School in May of 1966 and married the mother of his two children in November of 1966. They moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he attended and graduated from Nashville Auto-Diesel College in September of 1967. After graduating, they returned home where he worked short times at several jobs including Florida State Hospital as a psychiatric aid, Godfrey Lawrence Service Station & Garage, and Jackson County School Board Bus Barn before seeking employment at Apalachee Correctional Institution in 1974 as a Correctional Officer and later moving to Maintenance as the boiler operator. In July of 1995, he transferred employment to Florida State Hospital Laundry where he completed his retirement in 2005.
Andy enjoyed rebuilding cars, drag racing, hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends throughout the years. But the height of his retirement was marrying his wife, Susan, and enjoying spending most of their time at their “home away from home” in Hiawassee, Georgia. There he enjoyed long days relaxing on his front porch waving at friends in the park as they came by, fishing at the pond, taking the fur babies on their evening “R-I-D-E”, and most of all going to the weekly auction in town. He attended and participated in many Mule Day parades and competitions in Calvary, GA. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved mule and donkey, Max and Captain. Andy was also known as a big Elvis Fan and could be found enjoying his music.
He is survived by his wife, Susan McDaniel Gibson; his children, Marvin Gibson, Patti Gibson, Crystal Jackson Avriett (Bubba), and Monica Jackson Ragans (Robert); his grandchildren, Whitney Gibson, Amber Avriett Basford (Parker), Autumn Avriett Applewhite (Cole), Kinsey Ragans, Chase Ragans, Brody Ragans, and Mason Ragans; his great-grandchildren, Emma Goff, Paxton Basford, Paisley Basford and “Nate” Applewhite; his sister, Marie Gibson Owens (Anon), as well as host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Andy also leaves behind his beloved canine companions, Bella and Lucky.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Meleaze Gibson Perkins, and brother-in-law, Fletcher (Buddy) Perkins; and sister, Ethel Grace Pilcher, and brother-in-law Marvin Pilcher.
